This exhibit will showcase some of those individuals who gave the Chicago Blues its identity. Names like Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf and Little Walter come to mind. The exhibition features collage-portraits, silk screens, lazer prints and assemblage.
Under One Flag: The Chicago Blues is the title of this current exhibit. The beats and rhythms of the electric Blues, which were incubated in Chicago during the late 1940s into the 50s, continue to have a modern influence. How different would Rock and Roll and all subsequent pop music be without the influence of the Chicago Blues? This exhibit is not meant to be an all encompassing retrospective of Chicago Blues music – no one has that much spare time. But the artist hopes that the viewer will be inspired to do their own research about this miraculous musical genre that was born in their own backyard!
Peter Hagerty is a Chicago born artist. For over 12 years he has concentrated his efforts on creating Chicago-focused portrait exhibits. Each exhibit has used popular and lesser known Chicagoans to symbolize the theme of the show.
