African-American children’s illustrated literature is the focus of a museum exhibition featuring art produced for book illustrations.
In a twelve-panel traveling exhibition produced by Miami University of Ohio, "Telling A People's Story" presents African-American identity and history through the medium of children's book illustrations. It begins with African Traditions and Storytelling, explores the time frames of the Middle Passage, slavery and underground railroad, the Civil War, segregation, the Harlem Renaissance, and the Civil Rights Era, and ends with today's Black cultural identity. You will discover new children's book authors and illustrators. Create your own reading list to enjoy and discuss with your family.
