Introduction to Needle Felting

Introduction to Needle Felting

Presented by Bloomingdale Artists Association at Bloomingdale Park District Museum

BAA member Lois Shaffer will introduce participants to the art of needle felting. It’s a creative craft that involves sculpting shapes/figures using wool and special felting needles. It’s a simple yet versatile technique that results in amazing creations with just a few supplies. Please bring scissors and a small cordless light source if you have one. Wool is the primary material used in needle felting. Each wool fiber is covered in flat, overlapping scales. The action of the felting needle (repeatedly stabbing into the wool) tangles the wool fibers and causes the scales to interlock, resulting in felting. Visitors are welcome. There is a $10 drop-in fee, or consider becoming a member. The BAA welcomes new members, beginner to experienced artists, or anyone just curious about art. Membership dues for the calendar year of September through May are $30. Contact Lois Shaffer at 630-924-1577 for membership info.
