Worldscapes

Presented by The Naperville Winds at North Central College - Wentz Concert Hall

Join The Naperville Winds on a multi-faceted musical journey in "Worldscapes"! The journey begins in the Greek isles with Andreas Makris’ Aegean Festival Overture, followed by a stopover in New Orleans with Joan Tower’s jazz influenced Fascinating Rhythms. Next, we travel to France with the French impressionist-inspired Poem by Charles Griffes, featuring TNW principle flutist Whitney Bowden and Paul Dukas’ La Peri Fanfare, featuring the TNW brass section. We then cross the channel with English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Toccata Marziale. Finally, we pay homage to the Wright Brothers, who gave us the gift of air travel, with Robert W. Smith’s epic Twelve Seconds to the Moon. The concert also features performances from guest ensembles representing the acclaimed Warren Township High School Band Program of Gurnee, Illinois, under the direction of Mr. Kurt Gros and Mr. Lawrence Rogers.

The Naperville Winds is comprised of 80 talented wind musicians from throughout Northern Illinois on a mission to be a national pillar of exemplary wind band performance and a community leader of musical literature awareness and education for youth in northern Illinois.

Previously featured in the Chicago Tribune, on NCTV-17 Naperville and in the Daily Herald, the ensemble is proud to provide robust educational experiences and opportunities for youth in the Chicagoland region by sharing our stage with high school bands, particularly those that represent socioeconomically marginalized communities.
