Hidden Art Gems and Collection Highlights from the 1850s to the 1960s

Hidden Art Gems and Collection Highlights from the 1850s to the 1960s

Presented by Lombard Historical Society at Lombard Historical Society

Curated in part by our Intern Caitlyn Dixon, the eclectic exhibit features an aerial photograph of Lombard in the 1920s, a 1913 oil painting by Frederick de Forrest Schook of a scene in Churchill Woods called “Babcock’s Grove,”  and a black and white photograph by Stephen Spoden dated “1972 Chicago Academy of Fine Arts.” (Spoden was a graduate of the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts). Also on display, some for the first time, are watercolor paintings, pastels, prints, and photographs.

Other eye-catching items are a soft blue flapper ensemble, a pair of mother-of-pearl opera glasses, a vintage sugar bowl, Pat Wallace’s gavel from her term as first President of LHS starting in 1972, and an American flag that flew over the nation’s capitol building for one day.
