The Wheaton College Billy Graham Center, Wheaton College Missions & Evangelism ArchivesChristianity Today at Wheaton College presents “CT ChinaSource Christian Posters Lecture,” a lecture by Daryl Ireland on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at 7:00 PM.
Wheaton College Billy Graham Center, in partnership with the Wheaton College Missions & Evangelism Archives, and Christianity Today, presents a lecture with Boston University's Daryl Ireland featuring Chinese Christian posters.Between 1927 and 1951 millions of Christian posters entered the Chinese market. Printed by the thousands onto the cheapest paper, most were used in street preaching and teaching. Others were hung in tearooms and shop windows, or put up with starch and brooms on city gates and local temples. The bright-colored posters briefly attracted attention before they tore, were covered by a more current notice, or dissolved in the rain. These visual messages competed aggressively for the soul of China. A FREE PUBLIC LECTURE
Daryl Ireland is a Research Assistant Professor of Mission at Boston University, where he focuses on the history of Christianity in Asia, as well as the intersection of international development and faith. His book, Visions of Salvation: Chinese Christian Posters in an Age of Revolution will be published in April.
This event is free and open to the public and will take place in Billy Graham Center, Room 105 Barrows Auditorium, located at 500 College Avenue in Wheaton. For more information, contact Suzanne MacDonald, suzanne.macdonald@wheaton.edu.
