The Wheaton College Conservatory of Music presents a concert entitled Instrumental Inspiration: Anton, Benny, and Javier.
Instrumental Inspiration: Anton, Benny, and Javier will be performed by faculty artists Lee Joiner, Trevor O’Riordan, Brian Torosian, Michael Messer, Lilian Chou, Paul Zafer and Diane Chou at 7:30 pm on Monday, September 26.
Clarinetists Anton Stadler and Benny Goodman along with the sounds of the guitar as conceived by guitarist Javier Farías are the inspiration behind the works on this program. Bartók’s Contrasts, commissioned by Hungarian violinist Joseph Szigeti and jazz clarinetist turned classical interpreter Benny Goodman is a tour-de-force of virtuosity imbued with the spirit of Hungarian folk music. Andean Suite (2016) by Javier Farías, features distinctive sounds of the guitar and strings in music from various regions of the Andes Mountains. Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet, inspired by Anton Stadler, is one of the pristine gems of the chamber repertoire.
This concert will be held in Armerding Center for Music and the Arts Concert Hall, which is located at 520 E. Kenilworth Ave. on Wheaton's campus. For ticket information, visit tickets.wheaton.edu.
