The First Division Museum at Cantigny Park presents a screening of “More Than a Medal,” a 25-minute documentary about the work of the Valor Medals Review Project at Park University in Missouri.
The event will open with remarks by Park University’s Tim Westcott, Ph.D., director of the Robb Centre, associate professor of history, and associate archivist.
The Robb Centre is the home of the Valor Medals Review Project and Task Force, a team of researchers and historians performing a systematic investigation into minority veterans of the Great War (1914-1921) who, despite deserving deeds, may have been unjustly denied high-level valor awards owing to their racial or religious background.
“More Than a Medal,” produced by Lame Deer Films in cooperation with the Robb Centre, interweaves the efforts of the researchers working against time; untold heroic stories of courage on the battlefields of France, on the seas and in the air; and the experiences of modern-day descendants who maintain cautious hope of gaining proper recognition for their loved ones.
Film is free. Register at FDMuseum.org to reserve a seat. The website also has a link to the film's trailer.
