Opening Reception: STEAMPUNK - Gears, Gadgets & Garments

Opening Reception: STEAMPUNK - Gears, Gadgets & Garments

Presented by Lombard Historical Society at Victorian Cottage Museum

Experience the Victorian Cottage in a whole new way. The Exhibit Opening - Steampunk: Gears, Gadgets, & Garments: An Alternative History of the Victorian Cottage will feature several unique activities as well as an exhibit. Enjoy music, make a steampunk craft, engage in parasol dueling, and more. There will also be a costume contest with cash prizes at 7:30 pm.

Rae Slowik, education and collections manager and curator of the exhibit, describes Steampunk as “a science fiction subgenre which blends Victorian Era romanticism and fashion with steam powered technology. It is an alternative history that simultaneously accelerated human history forward with the invention of computers nearly 100 years sooner, but holds tightly to the design and aesthetics of the 19th century.”

The Exhibit will feature examples of Steampunk, including fashion, an optical semaphore, vintage adding machine, as well as others.

The exhibit is free and runs from Saturday, July 2 through Saturday, October 29, 2022. No reservations required for the exhibit. For more information about these events, or the Lombard Historical Society, please visit lombardhistory.org, email info@lombardhistory.org, or phone 630.629.1885.
