DuPage Symphony: Reflections

DuPage Symphony: Reflections

Presented by DuPage Symphony Orchestra at North Central College - Wentz Concert Hall

The DSO returns to the music of William Grant Still to open our March concert, with his colorful musical portrait of The American Southwest – one of five sets of musical suites that Still published in 1957 under the larger title, The American Scene. This second suite in the series includes musical vignettes that describe the majesty of Grand Teton, the lonely Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and the soulful Song of the Riverman in Still’s characteristically lyrical and decidedly American style. After a performance by the talented winner of the DSO 2022 Young Artists Auditions – to be chosen in February through our annual concerto competition for high school musicians – the orchestra dives into contemporary composer Michael Udow’s The Shattered Mirror Suite, a captivating musical reflection on global mythology. Tchaikovsky’s exhilarating Capriccio Italien, a brilliant compendium of Italian folk songs and dances that was written during a very dark period in the composer’s life, brings the program to a spirited close.

Please note at this time, masks are required to attend all in-person events on campus, regardless of vaccination status.
