Lilac Heritage Tours of Lilacia Park

Lilac Heritage Tours of Lilacia Park

Presented by Lombard Historical Society at Unknown

Lilac Time celebrations began in 1930 to officially open Lilacia Park. There have been only a few years when Lilac Time celebrations were canceled; during World War II and last year. The Lombard Historical Society is happy to announce that tours of Lilacia Park during Lilac Time will return for May 2021!

This season, tours will run from May 1st to May 15th, with two special tours on Mother’s Day. The 45 minute tours start at 11 am and begin at the Lombard Historical Society, 23 W. Maple Street, across from Lilacia Park. Ticket holders should arrive at least15 minutes prior to their tour time and gather outside the Lilac Emporium Gift Shop. Convenient parking is available in the lot just west of the Historical Society.

A proclamation by Fred Maisel, Village President in the 1930s, read: “I hereby dedicate “Lilac Day” in Lombard to wholesome pleasure and eternal spirit of friendship. Let joy and happiness reign. Lay aside all other vexations of spirit, forget business anxieties…Let us welcome into our realm those who come from distant places to pay homage to that beautiful flower, the lilac.”

Carriage House exhibits will be open for visitors to learn more about Lombard's history as well as Lilac Time pageants, princesses and queens. The Lilac Emporium Gift Shop will be open for visitors to take home a Lombard or Lilac Time memento.
