The hour-long concert will feature patriotic music and guest speakers from the Elmhurst College Veterans Association and Cmdr. John Scudder from the Elmhurst American Legion. Members of the American Legion Color Guard and Elmhurst Boy Scout Troops 77
After an invocation by the Rev. H. Scott Matheney, the concert will open with Morton Gould’s “American Legion Forever,” a march dedicated to the American Legion, followed by World War I music by George M. Cohan. Other pieces will include a medley of music from World War II through the Gulf War; John Williams’ “Hymn to the Fallen,” which will be accompanied by a video tribute; “God of Our Fathers” and “Stars and Stripes Forever,” our national hymn and march; and a patriotic sing-along of “America the Beautiful.”
Elmhurst College President Troy D. VanAken has described the annual Veterans Day tribute concert as “a wonderful opportunity to enjoy inspirational, patriotic music, and to think about how this country’s veterans and active service members, throughout our history, have fought and died to keep us free.”
The Veterans Day Tribute Concert will begin at noon on Sunday, Nov. 10, in Hammerschmidt Memorial Chapel (190 Prospect Ave., Elmhurst, elmhurst.edu/campusmap). Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, contact James Hile at (630) 617-3520.
