Arts DuPage Month Perk: In honor of Arts DuPage Month, The Community House will host a reception for artist Gabrielle Tufano from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20.

The work of Gabrielle Tufano is featured in the Belief Becomes exhibit at The Community House. The oil-painting-realist-turned-abstract-watercolorist credits motherhood as the motivation for her dramatic shift in mediums and styles. Not only did she wish to reduce exposure to strong fumes, she moved from doing projects which were painstaking and very time consuming to doing projects that were sill painstaking and intentional but could be started and finished in a short amount of time, say the amount of time it takes for a child to nap.

“Belief Becomes,” Tufano writes in her artist statement, was a personal challenge to create spontaneous works of art with a limited color palette, though you will note earthy gold acrylic appears in all the pieces, and a lot of water to see what happened when the watery paint hit the paper.

Tufano leads several classes at The Community House, among them a brushwork series for elementary school students, hand prints early childhood, and wine and paint nights for adults.

Belief Becomes runs through the end of October.
