RakuFest is a fundraising event supporting the 2020 Sarah Jo Hermanson Scholarship Fund that provides ceramic classes to deserving local students. Participants are invited to purchase unglazed ceramic pieces and glaze it themselves with provided materials. The pieces will be fired shortly thereafter, and the finished piece can be taken home the same day.
Raku: A process for taking red-hot pottery out of the kiln and placing it into containers with combustible materials. When the containers ignite, they are covered, causing a reduction in oxygen that leads to distinctive glaze and clay body colors.
Admission is free.
