The Marion E. Wade Center presents Seasoned Speech: Rhetoric in the Life of the Church, a book talk and signing by Jim Beitler on Tuesday, September 10 at 7 p.m. in the Wade Center’s Bakke Auditorium. Being a disciple involves communicating with others in a way that is able to impart the surprising truth of the gospel. In this talk, Jim Beitler seeks to renew interest in and hunger for an effective Christian rhetoric by closely considering the work of five beloved Christian communicators--C. S. Lewis, Dorothy L. Sayers, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Desmond Tutu, and Marilynne Robinson--and explores new ways to speak truth into culture. Dr. Jim Beitler is associate professor of English at Wheaton College, where he is the director of First-Year Writing and also coordinates the Writing Fellows Program. He is the author of Remaking Transitional Justice in the United States: The Rhetorical Authorization of the Greensboro Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Dr. Beitler also serves on the Wade Center Board. This lecture is free and open to the public. The Wade Center is located at 351 Lincoln Ave. on the northwest corner of campus at the intersection of Washington St. and Lincoln Ave. For more information, contact the Wade Center at 630.752.5908 or wade@wheaton.edu. |
