Rhonda Popko is an artist and teacher. Her artwork has evolved over the past 40 years as an exploration of different media and materials applied to a mix of surfaces, materials, and subjects. She studied printmaking, drawing and painting at the Art Institute of Chicago and Northeastern Illinois University, and has been awarded for her dedication to bringing arts and cultural enrichment to her community. Silk painting is the art of applying dye to silks. Often the silks are used as scarves, clothing or wall hangings. In silk painting, the painter controls the movement of dye within boundaries, such as a resist, on the silk. Rhonda will demonstrate the art of direct painting on silk using dyes and gutta resists.
