Celebrate the Summer Solstice with music from the Land of the Midnight Sun, featuring lively and picturesque works by Hugo Alfvén, Edvard Grieg, Carl Nielsen, and Jean Sibelius. A joyous salute to an annual astronomical occasion!
Join the DuPage Symphony Orchestra to celebrate the Summer Solstice: the longest day of the year, traditionally heralded by cultures around the world with bonfires, feasts, dancing, and a host of other festivities. The DSO brings you a special commemoration of the 2019 Solstice with lively and colorful music from the Land of the Midnight Sun, where cultural revelries are among the most exuberant. This invigorating program includes Edvard Grieg’s Norwegian Dances plus excerpts from Peer Gynt; Hugo Alfvén’s Swedish Rhapsody No. 1, known as Midsommarvaka; Carl Nielsen’s Aladdin Suite; and Jean Sibelius’ Karelia Suite as well as his beloved Finlandia, often considered the unofficial national anthem of this easternmost Nordic country. If you’re not able to visit Stonehenge or climb Mount Olympus on June 22, join the DuPage Symphony at Cantigny Park instead for a joyous salute to this annual astronomical occasion – the most magical day of the year!
Seating is on the lawn throughout the Military Park. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair and enjoy our Ravinia-style symphony concert. This is a rain or shine event.
New this year: Admission is FREE with paid parking at Cantigny Park ($10 per car).
