Bala Thiagarajan will demonstrate how she pipes acrylic paint using piping bags and squeeze bottles in patterns inspired by henna art to create one of a kind paintings on canvas.
Born and brought up in Chennai, India, Bala Thiagarajan has a passion for colors and patterns that are inspired by the Indian culture. She explores texture in different mediums and her color palette reflect the colors of silk and cotton saris worn by women in South India. Bala creates free-hand textured paintings by piping acrylic paints in the style of henna body art on canvas in an attempt to capture the temporary nature of this art onto more enduring surfaces. Painting intuitively, she focuses on her breathing and the symmetry of the paintings that comes from a meditative practice of organic repetition. By combining her biology background and her love for math - fractals and geometry - Bala's works and finished paintings are full of rhythm and color.
