Elmhurst Choral Union: Liszt & Schubert

Elmhurst Choral Union: Liszt & Schubert

Presented by Elmhurst Choral Union at Hammerschmidt Chapel, Elmhurst University

The concert features music by Liszt and Schubert, composers best known for other kinds of music.

The superstar piano virtuoso (and Casanova) of his day, Liszt wrote many piano pieces to show off his playing, and works for orchestra.  Later in life, he wrote sacred music, including his heartfelt Coronation Mass, written for the Hungarian Coronation of an Austrian emperor and empress.

During his short life, Schubert was known for composing songs, piano pieces, and symphonies.  His charming Mass in G is his best-known music for chorus and orchestra.

Director Scott Uddenberg leads Elmhurst Choral Union, soloists Susan Nelson, Amy Pickering, John Concepcion, and Michael Cavalieri, with a professional orchestra.

A pre-concert lecture about the music by composer David DeVasto begins downstairs at 2:00.

Elmhurst Choral Union is an outstanding auditioned chorus, performing choral masterworks and great choral music of all eras.
