PARTY IN THE PARK SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES

10 a.m. -- Start your morning with the energy of T-WAAP’s Spoken Word Showcase at the Shell, featuring the hip-hop crew, Watch City, along with Adam Gottlieb from the famous documentary “Louder Than A Bomb”. If you are a teenager, young adult or English teacher, you will not want to miss the power and poise of these poets who have either are or are in the process of becoming a carpenter of words.

Our very own West Chicago Library will be raffling off a magnetic poetry kit; anyone who writes a poem on their poetry board gets an entry!

Noon -- If you like to grill, you will want to stop by the “grill off” taking place at the Lion’s Pavilion adjacent to the ARC. This year we have 3 contestants that will be going head to head to impress the judges. Come by and offer encouragement or even pick up some tips for your next grilling experience.

Noon -- Ballet Folklorico will be performing at the Shell. This group of young people will be representing four different states from Mexico. During this 30-minute performance, you will get to experience a variety of cultures specific to each state that will be expressed through dance.

1 p.m. -- A Spoken Word workshop kicks off at the ARC in room 105. Everyone interested in learning more about becoming a poet needs to attend this workshop. You will learn from “Louder Than A Bomb” celeb, Adam Gottlieb. This 90-minute workshop will help you begin your journey to becoming a master poet and a carpenter of words.

2 p.m. -- Play for Peace will be hosting a series of fun activities at the Shell for everyone interested in meeting new people and making new acquaintances. These fun exercises are designed to make getting to know others easier by working together to accomplish a common goal.

3 p.m. -- Get ready to experience our very own West Chicago band, “4th Point”. These young men are sure to encourage and inspire people of all ages.

5 p.m. -- “Sammy and the Good Knights” will take us back to the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s with many of the favorites of the Baby Boomer Generation. So, if you are a Boomer, you will want to make sure you are present for this “throwback” performance.

7 p.m. -- Salsa anyone? “Projecto 7” will get everyone moving to the rhythm of Salsa. This energetic group is highly sought after for concerts throughout the Chicagoland area. If you like to have the music move you, then make sure you are present experience this talented group.

If percussion is your thing, you will want to meet Michael Rodriguez from El Ritmo School of Latin Percussion who will be teaching anyone interested rhythms on various instruments. Also, Dr. Andrew Veit will be conducting demonstrations on the vibraphone. This is open to young and old alike!
