Presented by the First Division Museum at Cantigny Park in commemoration of the Centennial Anniversary of World War I.
Baritone John Brancy and pianist Peter Dugan have been redefining the art song recital since making their critically acclaimed debut of World War I Memorial in Song at the Kennedy Center in 2014. Hailed by the Washington Post as "refreshingly, marvelously different," World War I Memorial in Song is a centennial tribute to the war that changed the world. It pays homage to composers and poets who lived through, fought and died in the war. From Butterworth's A Shropshire Lad to Debussy's Christmas of the Homeless Children to Walter Donaldson's My Buddy, the songs of World War I Memorial in Song are living artifacts of the WWI era. The poetry and music are infused with the emotions of war, from vengeful violence to solemn mourning to desperate calls for peace.
