About the Ensemble: Small Group Jazz ensemble is designed to address the fundamental concepts of jazz performance. Includes reading a jazz lead sheet, improvising over various forms common in jazz, and constructing small-group arrangements.

About the Director: Tom Tallman is professor of Music and director of Jazz Ensembles at College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, where he teaches courses in music theory, aural skills and American music. He is also the leader of the jazz performance program, which includes five ensembles ranging from small jazz groups to expanded big band. In addition, he maintains an active schedule of secular and sacred musical performance in the Chicago area. He holds Masters and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in Trumpet Performance from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Augustana College in Rock Island, IL.
