Suminagashi

Presented by Bloomingdale Artists Associaton at Bloomingdale Park District Museum

Artist Nancy Staszak will explore a bit of the Japanese art of Suminagashi, or "floating ink," that is better known as a type of paper marbling. A decorative pattern is created by floating ink on the surface of water and then transferred to a sheet of paper. Each marbled design is unrepeatable, and extraordinarily beautiful. Finished papers can be used in a variety of ways -- bookbinding, framed art, notecards, etc. Following Nancy’s demo we’ll have time to complete a few Suminagashi papers and notecards. $10 visitor/materials fee.
