Internationally acclaimed conductor Peter Lipari leads the West Suburban Symphony Orchestra and Singers in a concert of great music from a 1938 movie that will have you on the edge of your seat!!
The concert features Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky cantata for orchestra and chorus, sung in English, with Chicago mezzo-soprano Stacy Eckert as soloist. The music comes from a 1938 movie that recounted Prince Alexander the Great’s 13th century winter march to defend his homeland against invaders. Completing the concert is Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 1, known as his Winter Dreams symphony.
“This music will envelope you in the passions of Russia,” says Symphony president Richard Lukes. “It’s absolutely breath-taking.”
Lipari, who has led orchestras, bands, choruses, and musical stage productions in the United States and abroad to rave reviews for more than 30 years, has served as the Society’s music director since 2001. He is a Plainfield resident.
