Carol Hamilton, an award-winning artist, decided she wanted to be an “artist” at nine years of age and has been following that path the rest of her life. Her aesthetic roots are in the western landscape, science and zen. Although she has worked in many media, her formal training is in oil painting with a secondary concentration in papermaking and printmaking. After receiving her MFA in painting from the University of Wyoming, Hamilton travelled and taught art in the western states at university and secondary levels.

While living in the austere beauty of the Sonoran desert she began working in encaustic and experienced a transformation her work from figurative to abstraction. Encaustic’s luminosity allowed her to capture the “feeling” of the colors of the desert. Her work centers on the contemplative and is informed by her meditation practice. Hamilton is a member of the artist collective INTERSECT and is a resident artist at the Starline Factory Gallery in Harvard, Illinois. Carol’s work is in public collections and private collections.
