The Summer Orchestra of the Chicagoland Area (SOCA) was created in the summer of 2020 to combat COVID-19 and create a completely free summer orchestral experience for young Chicago musicians. Founded by Marina Akamatsu, River Makinney, and Liam Popovsky, the orchestra is entirely student led and seeks to provide countless resources for the community, such as free playing, community building, and a lecture series.
