Who We Are
Acappellago, founded in 2002, is a volunteer a cappella choir that has fun singing all around the western suburbs of Chicago. You will see us around the suburbs in our signature Hawaiian shirts. How did we come to be named Acappellago, and why Hawaiian shirts, you may ask? Our name, “Acappellago,” comes from the words “archipelago,” a collection of islands, and “a cappella,” the type of non-accompanied music we sing. The islands represent a place of “escape,” a place to sit back, relax, and enjoy life. As Acappellago it is our mission to invite you to join us as we “escape” to another place and time through the joys of a cappella music.
Our Annual Spring and Winter formal concerts provide an “escape” through a themed and diverse repertoire of music. In our “off-season” you can follow our National Anthem Tour as we perform for the Annual Aurora Pride Parade and a variety of local professional and semi-professional sports teams. Weʼve had fun singing for the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bandits, Chicago Fire, Chicago Steel, Kane County Cougars, and the Schaumburg Boomers, just to name a few. We are passionate about music and our communities and believe in fostering the rich music environment that we have all come to cherish. Our efforts to support local composers that align with this passion and belief are done through offering stipends, contests, and commissions for recent music created by college students and community residents.
Need Music for an Event?
Whether it’s adding a new stop on our National Anthem Tour or “escaping” to a new mini-concert location, Acappellago is happy to sing for you. We offer a diverse repertoire ranging from Bach and Broadway to Pop, Rock, and Jazz, and lots in between! We’re always adding to our current repertoire too.
