Through the repetition of symbols and marks, Morrison activates the totems, transforming them into spiritual messengers from an ancient time. ‘Unity’, ‘love’ and ‘life’ are constant expressions throughout these works, while the phrases, ‘look within’ and ‘we’ve been here before’, remind us that we are more than here and now.

In addition to presenting modern and contemporary exhibitions to our community and creating opportunities for emerging, established and legendary artists, The CCMA also has a mission to support the Fine Art students at the College of DuPage. It is in that spirit that we present a new exhibition from our student gallery, ‘Wings’. Of course, in these unprecedented times, the exhibition will take place online.
Charles Morrison’s, ‘We’ve been here before: Balance from Ancestral Totems’ is a sculptural and video based exhibition that taps into Charles’ developing skills as a ceramist and performer, his sense of spiritual awareness and the profound connection he has to his ancestral roots.
You might have met Charles before, as he has been a student at the College of DuPage for the past two years and working with us at The CCMA for the last year. Taking out two major prizes in our Annual Student Exhibition, Charles is a highly skilled and engaged emerging artist and is destined for great things in the contemporary art world.
