Through discussion and demonstration, Rebecca Tulloch traces the origins of the American Spiritualism movement which promoted the belief that the living could communicate with the dead.

The American Spir1tualism movement can be first traced to the year 1848 and the village of Hydesville, N.Y.  where two teenaged sisters, Maggie and Kate Fox, claimed that they had communicated with the ghost of a man murdered at the house years before their family moved in.  Reports of their experience first appeared in the NY Tribune and  were later published  in other newspapers across America and Europe.  Also called, "Victorian Spiritualism", the movement was fueled by the deaths of
