Serenade by Three: Orion Beginnings

The Orion Ensemble, winner of the prestigious Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming, showcases its three original members—clarinetist Kathryne Pirtle, violinist Florentina Ramniceanu and pianist Diana Schmück—in concert November 6 at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Geneva. The program includes Edward Yadzinski’s Bartók Dances for clarinet and piano, based on Béla Bartók’s Romanian Folk Dances, Sz 56 (1915); Franz Liszt’s Rigoletto Fantasy (1859); Isaac Albeniz’s “Granada” from Suite espagnole, Op. 47 (1886) and “Córdoba” from Chants d’Espagne, Op. 232 (1892); Aram Khatchaturian’s Trio for clarinet, violin and piano (1932); three pieces for violin and piano from John Williams’ score for the multiple Academy Award-winning film Schindler’s List (1994); and Srul Irving Glick’s The Klezmer’s Wedding for clarinet, violin and piano (1996).
