Sears Homes of Chicagoland and Glen Ellyn

You may have seen several in your neighborhood. You may have even lived in one. From 1908 to 1942, Sears, Roebuck & Company sold about 65,000 ready-to-build kit homes through catalogs.

Our presenter, Lara Solonickne, will lead her audience through the story of these unique homes. Despite the rash of tear-downs in the Chicago area, some of these houses have managed to survive. They are undiscovered treasures hidden in plain sight. Solonickne will explain how to identify and authenticate a Sears home and what makes them historically significant.

ADMISSION INFO

Tickets are $8 for Adults and $5 for GEHS Members & Students 18 and under. Tickets will be sold in advance at Stacy’s Corner’s Store, the Glen Ellyn Historical Society’s gift shop, through Eventbrite (see link below), as well as at the door the afternoon of the event. Refreshments will be served.

PARKING INFO

There is convenient, free parking in our lot. If the lot is full, additional parking is located behind Stacy's Tavern Museum. If school is closed, you may also park by the elementary school, or across the street at the District 41 Administration Building. There is also parking on nearby residential streets, but watch for directional signs as not all side streets allow parking on both sides.
