Scandrette Lecture Looking Beyond the Material World: Spiritual Struggles and Supernatural Attributions

Psychologically speaking, what factors make people think that God is speaking with them or intervening in their lives? And what about other spiritual forces, such as demons, angels, spirits of deceased people, or forces such as destiny or karma? People may see a variety of supernatural entities as being active in the world–and perhaps in their own lives. This talk will explore the topic of supernatural attributions and suggest potential connections with recent research on religious and spiritual struggle. A reception will follow the program.
