Don Quixote is a comic romance in the sunny landscape of Spain, set to Ludwig Minkus. The calling card of Don Quixote is the fabulous and incredible dancing that packs the ballet from start to finish. Based on the epic 17th-century novel by Miguel de Cervantes, Don Quixote tells the story of a creative old knight who, inspired by a vision, convinces his sidekick Sancho Panza to pursue the idealized Dulcinea. Their adventures lead them to Kitri, the daughter of an innkeeper, who is avoiding marriage to the wealthy Gamache in favor of her true love, Basilio, the barber. Ever the romantic, Don Quixote helps to save Kitri from marrying without love.
This includes guest appearances for Kitri and Basilio’s principal roles from international guest artists from Cuban, who will dance the famous pas de deux for Kitri and Basilio in Act III and the sublime work of our Salt Creek Balet dancers in the Corps de Ballet as Dryads or wood nymphs in the dream sequence of Act II.
Production is approximately 1.5 hours with intermission. Appropriate for children 4+. The Fiesta de Familia is a fun, child focused event included in the ticket price and immediately following the show on Saturday, March 16.
