Pre-Civil War Quilts

Join Connie Martin as she shares the stories, passed down through generations, of how her family survived the Anti-bellum period. Learn how they used quilts containing hidden codes and secret messages to assist abolitionists, white and black, to guide slaves to freedom through the Underground Railroad to Canada. During this presentation, Martin will share eighteen different patterns in replica quilts and refer to the book “Lizzie’s Story: A Slave Family’s Journey to Freedom,” which was written by her mother, Dr. Clarice Boswell.
