Parodies of Painting Masterworks

This exhibition features several hundred examples of well-known fine art paintings, altered, taken out of context, and reused in cartoon strips, and appropriated for other art pieces. The show is organized by artist, with a copy of an original painting accompanied by other works which parody that original. The result is surprising, funny, strange, creative. Included are references to Van Gogh, Grant Wood, Monet, Seurat, Picassso, DaVinci, and many more. A major part of the exhibit uses the familiar image of Mona Lisa. Along with commercial interpretations, an original large painting by noted Chicago artist Tom Palazzolo is included. Other 3-D related items like a blow-up “Scream” figure, sox, greeting cards, t-shirts, dolls, complete the display.
