New Philharmonic Lakeside Pavilion Concert

Under the direction of Maestro Kirk Muspratt, the orchestra performs a highly entertaining mix of classical, pops, movie scores and will feature the Chicago area premiere of Michael Daugherty’s “Passacaglia in Primary Colors” the fifth and final movement from Fifteen: Symphonic Fantasy on the Art of Andy Warhol (2021) originally commissioned and premiered by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra for their 125th Anniversary.

As stated by Daugherty on his website, “My symphony is inspired by the art of Andy Warhol, famous for being the world’s most recognizable proponent of Pop Art, and for his wry quotation: ‘In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes.’” Daugherty explains in his program notes for the fifth movement, “Warhol often employed repetition of images and vibrant primary colors in his art works. The final movement of my symphonic fantasy is therefore structured as a passacaglia, one of the most recognizable structures for musical repetition.  The main musical motive consists of 15 pulses or beats, repeated and transformed into unpredictable tonalities and blocks of instrumental color.”

Free outdoor concerts are located at Lakeside Pavilion and do not include access to exhibition. Bring a chair or blanket – seating begins one hour prior to concert. Reserving spots is not allowed. Outside alcohol, coolers, kegs or umbrellas are not allowed.
