Ten explorers. Four boats. One Grand Canyon. Men On Boats is the true(ish) history of an 1869 expedition.
A one-armed captain and a crew of insane yet loyal volunteers set out to chart the course of the Colorado River. Imagine a play focused on the expeditions wrapped up in the mapping and “discovery” of the Colorado River. Imagining a bunch of white dudes? Playwright Jacklyn Backhaus challenges us to see those people and explorer-claimed discoveries through the performance lens of a cast of female, non-binary and BIPOC actors. Also included? River rapids, on boats.
