Inspired by Tony Tyznik: Drawing Oaks

Use the style of renowned landscape architect Tony Tyznik for inspiration as you create a drawing of an oak tree, working either in graphite or in pen and ink.Tony Tyznik was a landscape architect at The Morton Arboretum for many decades and was a key figure in making the Arboretum what it is today. Mr. Tyznik was also a fine artist, with a keen eye for observation and detail, accurately capturing the structure and scale of trees in an intricate and engaging style.

In this class, you will study the pen and ink portfolio of Tyznik. Then using either pencil or pen and ink, work from herbarium sheets, live specimens, and other references to draw your chosen tree and add a human figure for scale.
