Meet the Artist: Maureen McKee

“The abstracted image creates an opportunity to explore shapes and their relationships while balancing the composition in the process. Flow, color, rhythm and movement throughout my paintings are goals. Drips and splashes can become anchor points which lead to the next stroke or shape, while adding and deleting paint. Letting intuition take free rein can be a uplifting or scary process, especially since my painting style often leans toward realism – I embrace the process. It inspires me and uplifts me, while enjoying the simplicity and brilliance of color that can be achieved. Music is a large influencer as well as the unpredictability of nature that exhibits its ever changing light and texture of the world. The spontaneity of creating is a emotional high.” ~ Maureen McKee
