Fall into Jazz with Arts in Bartlett

Katherine Andrick has strong roots in classical music but fell in love with jazz improvisation during her time at Elmhurst College. It was there that she and Portolese perfected their own take on gypsy jazz, also known as gypsy swing, which traveled from the gypsy camps outside Paris in the 1930s to the jazz clubs of America. They draw on Frank’s love of chord melodies, and Katherine’s influence from the likes of Stephane Grappelli, Stuff Smith, and Jean-Luc Ponty. As a duo, they glide seamlessly through jazz standards with a unique style and connection that comes from playing together for many years.
