Faculty Recital Series: "Justice, Not Charity"

Kathleen Kastner teaches all aspects of percussion, as well as world music and twentieth-century music history. As Wheaton\’s first resident percussion teacher, she founded the Percussion Ensemble in the fall of 1972. After many years of solo and chamber music performances, as well as involvement in faculty improvisation performances, her passion turned to percussion pedagogy, with her book, The Marimba: Teach It!published in 2013. She received the Senior Teaching Award from Wheaton College in 2011, and most recently, she was named the 2017 Alumna of the Year for Distinguished Service to Alma Mater by the Wheaton College Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Ben Wahlund is a Grammy-nominated, award-winning music educator, composer, and performer, who lives in the Chicago area. Wahlund serves as a full-time percussion instructor at Northern Illinois University (DeKalb, IL) and the Director of Percussion at the College of DuPage (Glen Ellyn, IL). Published by Bachovich Music, HoneyRock Publications, and Innovative Percussion, his music compositions have won numerous international awards and are performed by professionals around the world. Ben is a member of the Yamaha Performing Artist roster, the Zildjian Artist Program, and endorses Innovative Percussion Sticks and Mallets.

The concert takes place in Edman Memorial Chapel, located on the northeast corner of Washington and Franklin streets. Tickets are available only at the door and cost $10 for general audience and $5 for seniors over 60. Admission is free to students and Wheaton College ID holders.
