A Night at the Movies: Field of Dreams

This summer, residents can once again watch movies under the stars during “A Night at the Movies” in parks across Naperville. The Naperville Park District recently unveiled the lineup for this free, family-friendly event, which kicks off July 29.

Aug. 12 at 8:20 p.m.: “Field of Dreams” at Rotary Hill, 443 Aurora Ave.

“If you build it, he will come.” With thes words, Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella (Costner) is inspired by a voice he can’t ignore to pursue a dream he can hardly believe. Supported by his wife Annie (Madigan), Ray begins the quest by turning his ordinary cornfield into a place where dreams can come true. Along the way he meets reclusive activist Terence Mann (Jones), the mysterious “Doc” Graham (Lancaster), and even the legendary “Shoeless Joe” Jackson (Liotta).

Aug. 26 at 8 p.m.: “Jungle Cruise” at 95th Street Community Plaza, 3109 Cedar Glade Dr.

Inspired by the famous Disneyland theme park ride, Disney’s Jungle Cruise is an adventure-filled, rollicking thrill-ride down the Amazon with wisecracking skipper Frank Wolff (Dwayne Johnson) and intrepid researcher Dr. Lily Houghton (Emily Blunt). Lily travels from London, England to the Amazon jungle and enlists Frank’s questionable services to guide her downriver on La Quila—his ramshackle-but-charming boat. Lily is determined to uncover an ancient tree with unparalleled healing abilities—possessing the power to change the future of medicine. Thrust on this epic quest together, the unlikely duo encounters innumerable dangers and supernatural forces, all lurking in the deceptive beauty of the lush rainforest. But as the secrets of the lost tree unfold, the stakes reach even higher for Lily and Frank and their fate—and mankind’s—hangs in the balance.

The Madrigals live hidden in the mountains of Colombia, in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift from super strength to the power to heal—every child except one, Mirabel (voice of Stephanie Beatriz). But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family’s last hope.

Sept. 16 at 7:20 p.m.: “Black Widow” at 95th Street Community Plaza, 3109 Cedar Glade Dr.

Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.

Moviegoers are encouraged to bring folding chairs or blankets to these movie nights.
