“A Closer Look at Historical Architecture”  By William North

This exhibit consists of 31 black and white photographs focusing on ornament and structural elements of buildings. William feels that black and white is more appropriate for                        these buildings, and that he uses black and white in the dramatic style of the old masters.

Buildings included in this exhibit are located in Bloomingdale and Wheaton. Because Bloomingdale was a farming community, the wood frame structures have largely been lost. The 1894 schoolhouse and museum building are included. St Paul’s Church and St Isadore church are also covered, and still exist due to their masonry construction, and continuous use.

The churches and public buildings of Wheaton have survived because they were constructed to be permanent. Therefore, more of these buildings are included.

Accompanying the exhibit are artifacts and historical photographs chosen by William to add context to his images. William says, “Look for the art in the architecture.” More images may be seen on his website:  williamcnorth.com
