Public Art Competition: Real Surreal

Once again, the Naperville Art League (NAL) is partnering with local non-profit Loaves & Fishes Community Pantry for our Public Art Competition. All entries must be the artist’s personal, original artistic interpretation of the theme: Real Surreal. An artist’s statement of 100 words or less explaining how your work relates to the theme must accompany your piece. Work that does not reflect the theme may be rejected.

Pieces may be representational or abstract. All work must be original in design, concept and execution and signed by the artist. Pieces must have been made within the last 3 years. Group projects, kits or commercially prepared objects that are decorated will not be eligible. No previously winning artwork.

Any media or mixed-media may be used. Photography and computer art are acceptable.

Maximum size for 2-D pieces is 36” x 48” for the outside frame in either direction. Pieces must be appropriately framed and ready to hang with a wire hanger. No “sawtooth” hangers. “Top” or any special hanging requirements must be plainly marked on the back to avoid hanging errors. No more than 30 lbs. Maximum size for 3-D pieces is 48” high by 36” wide and/or deep; no more than 50 lbs. and must be freestanding, ready to display. Disclaimer Any deviation from the rules is subject to review and approval by the exhibit committee.
