Wheaton Music Club’s 69th annual Scholarship Contest is open to wind, brass, string and piano middle school and high school students who reside in or study in DuPage County, IL. Up to $4200.00 will be awarded.

  • Rules
    Contestants must be in grades 6 through 12 for the wind, string and piano divisions, must be studying privately, and must reside or study in DuPage County or study with a teacher based in DuPage County.
  • Contestants are required to play two contrasting pieces. They may be different movements from one piece or two separate pieces. They must be contrasting in styles or tempi. Neither exercises nor teaching etudes are acceptable. A concert etude is allowed. Total playing time is not to exceed 10 minutes, including tuning and set up done in the contest room.
  • String and piano players are required to play from memory. Wind players will be given extra credit for memorization. The numbered original of your music is required for the judge.
  • First and second place winners must agree to perform one of their contest pieces for the Winners Recital of the Glen Ellyn-Wheaton Music Club on Sunday, March 18, 2018.
  • An entrance fee of $25.00 is required of each contestant and is not refundable. All applications must be postmarked by January 27, 2018. Applications sent after this date will include a $10.00 late fee and no late application will be accepted if postmarked later than February 3, 2018. Late applications and entrance fees will be returned if there are not contest times remaining when the application is received.
  • No previous first place winner may re-enter in the same division. However, a previous Junior Division winner may compete in the Senior Division when in grades 9-12.
  • Percussion, harp and guitar are not included in the contest.

  • Glen Ellyn-Wheaton Music Club reserves the right to drop or combine a division if there are less than three contestants in that division. The GEWM Club reserves the right not to award a prize if the judge feels there is not a suitable winner.

The contest is Saturday, February 17, 2018 in Wheaton, and the winners’ recital will be Sunday, March 18, 2018 in Carol Stream.
