A fun and new artistic opportunity is coming to Bolingbrook at the end of October! The Bolingbrook Arts Council, Illinois American Water, and The Promenade Bolingbrook are working together to create a unique public art opportunity for Bolingbrook, by having professional artists paint selected hydrants at The Promenade Bolingbrook.

Selected artists will receive $300 per painted hydrant

The Kick-off painting day will happen during a fall festival happening at the Promenade Bolingbrook on October 24th

Paint-a-Hydrant Program Agreement & Application

The Bolingbrook Arts Council, Illinois American Water, and The Promenade Bolingbrook are sponsoring the 2020 Paint-a-Hydrant Program in the Bolingbrook community. This year, the hydrants to be painted will be around the walking areas of The Promenade Bolingbrook. Artists will be selected from the applications and the concept art submitted. If selected, the artist will be notified and will receive $300 per painted hydrant. Artists may submit more than one concept art drawings in their application.

KICK-OFF EVENT:

Saturday, October 24, 2020 at 12pm (noon) , Rain date- Sunday, October 25

APPLICATION DUE:

Wednesday, October 14 and all artists selected will be notified by Sunday, Oct 18.

ARTIST REQUIREMENTS

While artists should provide their own tarps, brushes, and other painting supplies, the paint​ itself will be provided. Please note: Each selected artist may choose up to 5 colors of paint ahead of the event, which will be mixed and provided by Sherwin-Williams.

The property around the hydrant should be kept clean and neat when working on the hydrant. A drop cloth must be taped around the bottom of the hydrant covering the sidewalk, ground or any area adjoining the hydrant.

Paint cannot prevent the functional use of the hydrant. The three openings and the top turning knob must all function. Hydrant threads may not be painted. Paint cannot seep into it to prevent operation.

Please use bright, vibrant colors. Painting may not reduce the hydrant’s visibility. *For example, paint may not be all black, dark camouflage green, or use patterns and/or designs that are the same color as the vegetation or items surrounding the hydrant*

No attached or added objects may be used. Paint only.

Design must be appropriate for public places* Paintings/art cannot endorse an individual or business.* No offensive, derogatory or obscene graphics.* No gang tags

No logos, copyrighted or trademarked graphics. Only original artwork will be accepted. Artwork must also be relevant all year long-- no seasonal artwork, please.

Artists must be available to start painting during the Kick-Off Event date, however the hydrant does not need to be finished on that day.

In order to be considered to paint a hydrant at The Promenade Bolingbrook, you must submit a completed application and one or more concept art examples on the provided hydrant template.
