YOUR GUIDE TO ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT IN DUPAGE COUNTY

The object isn’t to make art,
it’s to be in that wonderful state
which makes art inevitable.
-Robert Henri
My artmaking as a process and as a body of work transcends categorization. I create based on where inspiration leads me. I love to paint landscapes outdoors, to paint flowers from life – to have an intimate relationship with nature, expressing in paint my interpretation of the colors and forms I see. I enjoy telling the story of special structures, highlighting historic or significant buildings within communities in order to call attention to the importance of place. Inspiration also prompts me to explore color relationships and movement in non-objective painting in an attempt to cause the viewer’s eyes to dance or soul to vibrate. My own inner journey as the sufferer of a chronic illness has influenced me to move beyond my usual medium of paint. In processing my diagnosis and the challenges of navigating care for a rare genetic condition, I am creating a series that includes printmaking, fiber art, sculpture, photography, and multi-media works. Being open to all of these inspirations allows me the privilege of regularly experiencing “that wonderful state which makes art inevitable.”
