Artist’s Statement

I am a visual story teller. My sculptures tell the story of a person that I have known, an ancestor, a historical person or one that I have imagined based on our culture and society of today’s world. Each work of art represents the person’s journey of the human experience yet, each work of art is an expression of my inner self.

There is a common thread of expression and exploration that binds all of us together, such as emotions, feelings, failures, successes, achievements, joys, sadness or life’s markers. The observer as well as myself are forced to explore the depth of the human existence.

Working with clay connects me to the four essential elements of earth — clay, air, fire and water which represents the earth’s forces. Combining that with intuition or the spiritual element, the soul is nourished as well. As an artist,
I have a responsibility to share my sculptural stories with others; to inspire, contemplate and analyze the human condition.
