JOHANNES BRAHMS’ MAGNIFICENT GERMAN REQUIEM will move your soul with its affirmation of personal faith and victory over death. In his Requiem, Brahms redefined the genre and, instead of creating a Latin mass for the dead, created one to console the mourners left behind. While Brahms selected text from the Old and New Testaments and the Apocrypha, the overall message is more about human spirituality than a particular faith. We will introduce that great work with Brahms’ Tragic Overture. Joining our orchestra and chorus as soloists for the Requiem will be soprano Ann McMann and baritone Jeffrey Ray.
