Elmhurst Artists’ Guild Hosts Chicago Women’s Caucus for Art “TRANSMOGRIFICATION”

TRANSMOGRIFICATION is as simple as transitioning from who we are by entering a cardboard box “the transmogrifier,” as seen in the Calvin and Hobbes cartoon series. Or: it can be as complicated as altering ourselves, art, institutions, and beliefs into the fantastic, magical, or bizarre, as seen in the metamorphosis from a chrysalis into a butterfly, or in game arts. The artist’s interpretation makes it personal: in its dramatic change of shape and form, appearance, emotion and mood. The medium, in most cases, transmogrifies: the line becomes energy, the circle becomes a sphere, the portrait becomes self. TRANSMOGRIFICATION is transformation with a powerful kick, a unique twist.

CWCA is a chapter of the national organization Women’s Caucus for Art, with a mission to create community through art, education, and social activism. CWCA is committed to recognizing the contribution of women in the arts, providing leadership opportunities, professional development, networking and exhibition opportunities, supporting art activism and equity in the arts for all.

The EAG gallery is not-for-profit, operated by the Elmhurst Artists’ Guild. It features contemporary artworks in a variety of styles and media. In addition to four member shows each year, the guild hosts exhibitions of individual member’s artwork and invitational shows for significant local artists. Exhibits are partially supported by grants from the Illinois Arts Council.

The public is invited to the free opening reception on Friday, Nov. 10, 2017 from 7:00 to 9:00pm.
